Besides the previous experience in
the clinical research field, some current experience in any clinical
trials related activity in North America is a very substantial plus.
Companies prefer it because it allows you to familiarize yourself in
practice with the requirements and regulations, that govern clinical
trials.
For this
reason our Center has developed the first Virtual CRO in Canada, where
the students can not only do in-house work with documents, but also
perform real monitoring tasks from their home computer and acquire
several months of practical experience with remote electronic Clinical
Trial Management and EDC (Electronic Data
Capture) systems, which is an important hiring criterion.
Even if you start on a low level position, like Administrative or
Project Assistant or Data-entry Assistant at a research site, with that
knowledge you will stand a much better chance of obtaining a CRA
position once you complete the CRA
Training, because you are already in the field and you have all the
practical experience to be effective immediately, exactly what companies
are looking for.
This approach has also the huge
advantage, that you will create a network of people, working in the
field, who will get to know you and you will stand very good chances to get
an offer once you graduate.
Once you get into
the field, after 6-12 months of work the recruiters will start calling
you to offer you better positions, as you will have already the
practical experience, that companies seek.
If you are a
health care professional, who would like to shift into a clinical
research role, joining the local chapter of a professional
organization could provide you with lot of networking opportunities,
that can
lead to a well-paid position in the field from the beginning.
